Tours to the old tea area in Da Lat are attracting a large number of tourists to the flower city of Da Lat.

Tours to old tea area in Da Lat

Yersin mark on “small Langbiang”

Cau Dat, Xuan Tho and Xuan Truong are known as an area of tea farms founded in the French colonial time. Yersin, who was the first person to explore Da Lat, called it a “small Langbiang”. From Dran Pass, tourists can recognise traces of the forgotten railway through mountain caves that link the flower city of Da Lat with Phan Rang.

The railway has not been used for years. Today, tourists also rarely choose the tourist train from Da Lat to Trai Mat (about eight kilometres) so the belt of Da Lat has been forgotten too.

From Da Lat to Trai Mat, Xuan Tho and Xuan Truong, there is a canh-ki-na tree garden planted by doctor Yersin to extract quinine, a drag used to treat malavia. Therefore, sometimes tourists can see the tree on the height of 1,550 metres.

Waterfalls, caves and tea trees

On the road leading to the tea growing land, tourists can call at Tiger Cave waterfall, a wild waterfall in the forest of Xuan Truong. At the foot of the waterfall, there is a cave running through a mountain.

Recently, the suspension bridge spanning over the top of the waterfall has been built so that tourists can view the beauty of the waterfall comfortably and safely.

Along the route, tourists can visit a well-known pagoda of Linh Phuoc with an image of a dragon inlaied with 12,000 cans of beer and pieces of cups.

From the pagoda towards Cau Dat stretching are the green tea hills. The seent of wind and fog is mixed with the scent of young tea eaves, creating a cool sweet fragrance. Recently, projects of producing O Long tea, a precious kind of tea in Vietnam are being carried out.
