UNESCO National Committee of Vietnam, the Ministry of Culture and Information, and the People’s Committee of the central Thua Thien – Hue Province pooled resources to hold the conference. The event has attracted participation by Chu Shiu Kee, chief representative of UNESCO in Vietnam and nearly 100 delegates from the UNESCO Hanoi office, as well as representatives from localities of world heritage sites, biosphere reserve zones, and the keepers of relics proposed to UNESCO for recognition as world heritage sites. For three days, April 11-13, delegates will focus discussion on the latest UNESCO policies, the situation and measures for emerging problems at domestic world heritage sites, measures to improve management and preservation capability at world heritage sites, and actual methods to build a cooperative network between heritage and biosphere reserves within Vietnam. Since 1999, the UNESECO National Committee, the Ministry of Culture and Information, the People’s Committees of Quang Ninh, Quang Binh and Quang Nam provinces have cooperated in organising three meetings to exchange experiences in preservation, monitoring, and developing the value of heritage sites, promoting cooperation and unity among world heritage sites.
