According to Nguyen Trong Tin, Director of the Ba Ria – Vung Tau Tourism Department, tourists to the city have soared and most hotels are full, except for some three and four-star establishments. Mr Tin expects around 60,000 people to attend the festival each day. The local Department of Tourism has completed preparations and has verified service prices for visitors. According to Mr Tin, all restaurants in Vung Tau must make their prices public and promise not to raise them by more than 50%. But Mr Tin also said that the tourism office couldn’t ensure that small-scale businesses would heed the ruling. In response, the organizing board has prepared two hotlines for visitors during the festival: 064 512268 and 064 512269. Other districts and management boards at tourist sites in Ba Ria – Vung Tau also have their own hotlines for the event. The festival opened this morning with the firing of the cannon. Visitors in Con Dao District also walked with local residents to Con Dao historical relics to mark the opening. At 9am, the Fair and Exhibition on Ba Ria Vung Tau’s economic, cultural and social achievements opened to welcome visitors at the Paradise site. At the same time, a water music programme opened at Bai Truoc Beach. At 10am, a seafood festival opened at the Bien Dong tourist site with 30 companies from 17 provinces and cities introducing four special cuisines. The festival will also feature a fireworks display at 8pm tonight at the stage on Bai Sau Beach, followed by a three-hour musical performance. (Source: VNE)
