No opening ceremony for Perfume Pagoda Festival, Ha Tay
On January 6, Mr. Duong Ky Lan, Vice Director of the Ha Tay Province Department of Culture and Information, said that in order to save money there would be no opening ceremony for the Perfume Pagoda Festival, the biggest cultural event in Ha Tay
No opening ceremony for Perfume Pagoda Festival Unlike in previous years, this year’s festival will be limited to incense offering activities which will be inexpensive and respectful.
In addition, all other festivals in the province won’t be allowed to distort folk traditions with distasteful displays, and unnecessarily expensive ceremonies. At these festivals, tradition will be relived through such sport activities as wrestling, traditional martial arts, swing, cock-fighting, body chess, and rice cake contests, which will be both capture the spirit of tradition as well as encourage many people to participate.
Ha Tay has more than 600 big and small festivals every year. The long and large-scale festivals that attract millions of visitors are the Perfume Pagoda Festival, Teacher Pagoda Festival, and Western Pagoda Festival. Ha Tay Province Department of Information and Culture is co-coordinating activities of villages and town cultural offices in order to organise the festivals in a entertaining and culturally enriching manner.
The provincial authorities forbid all kinds of superstition and commercial activities at the festivals such as auctions and illegal fee collections as well as inappropriate usage of donation money.
