03/01/07 (GMT+7)

Lam Dong and Khanh Hoa provinces are joining forces to tap their tourism potentials, and develop Vietnam tourism products and promotion programs, an official said.

Nguyen Trong Hoang, director of the Lam Dong Province Department of Tourism and Trade, said the department had reached agreement with its counterpart in Khanh Hoa to jointly develop and promote Vietnam tourism products.

"We will develop tours linking tourist destinations of the two provinces when a road between Lam Dong and Khanh Hoa is opened to traffic," he said.

The 32.4-kilometer road worth VND397bil will be ready early this month, shortening the distance between the two provinces to around 90 kilometers.

"We have different tourism products and can work out joint programs to make the most of them," he said.

Home to Nha Trang Bay, one of the most beautiful in the world, the central coast province of Khanh Hoa has more potentials for developing sea tourism while Da Lat in Lam Dong is well-known as a flower city where ecological tourism has great growth potential.

The two provinces boast average tourism growth of around 14-15% a year.

Hoang said the two tourism departments were considering introducing a tour called "Follow the footsteps of Yersin," and arrange special tours featuring sea and forest potentials of Lam Dong and Khanh Hoa Vietnam.

"We will promote tourism for both provinces and link the tourism websites of the two provinces in the coming time," he said.

Tourism authorities are planning to support transport companies of the two provinces to cater to the travel needs of tourists to Vietnam.

He said the joint Vietnam tourism products and programs of Lam Dong and Khanh Hoa would be presented in the first quarter of next year. "We continue meet early next year in Nha Trang to discus more details for the plan."
