Foreign visitors come to Ha Long Bay Vietnam for Tet

20/02/07 (GMT+7)

Ha Long Bay, the world heritage site in Vietnam's northern Quang Ninh province , welcomed 300 foreigners on the first day of the new lunar year of February 17

"It is wonderful to celebrate the Vietnamese traditional new year (Tet) festival on Ha Long bay Vietnam," a British visitor said.

On February 18, the site is expected to welcome around 1,000 visitors from China, the Republic of Korea, France, the US, the Netherlands and the UK, who come by cruise.

This is a good sign for the provincial tourism sector, which has set a target of receiving 3.3 million tourists, including 1.2 million foreign visitors in 2007.

Earlier on February 16, a grand celebration to say goodbye to the old lunar year was held at the Hoang Gia International Joint Stock Company's headquarter area in Bai Chay for around 1,000 foreign tourists.

The guests were feted with Vietnamese traditional food and entertained by a performance of folk songs and folk dances.

The reopen of the sea route from China to Ha Long Bay and bustling promotion activities inside and outside the country conducted by domestic travel companies last year proved to be good for Quang Ninh's hospitality industry.

Last year, the province reported 3.1 million tourists, a year on year rise of 26%, of whom 1.2 million were foreigners, an increase of 15%.
