Dalat Palace Golf Club offers new tour packages
The Dalat Palace Golf Club is already working on a variety of packages for new golf players.
We are putting together a range of golf clinics and training programs to introduce the game to novice players," the club's manager Jeff Puchalski said.
Puchalski added that one of the advantages of playing in a cool mountain retreat like Da lat is that golfers can come for a weekend retreat, or week-long golf holiday combining golf clinics with some game time in the beautiful surroundings.
The Dalat Palace Golf Club packages are conducted with the teaching skills of PGA Apprentice Professional Kenny Saunders, who has just been appointed as the golf professional and operations manager at the course in the resort city.
Saunders came to work for the course in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong after leaving the Hermitage Golf Course in Tennessee in the United States.
"I was still pretty surprised by how good it was," Saunders said. "The design and condition of the course are every bit as good or better than the course I just moved from in Tennessee and we were top 10 in the state." Saunders managed to turn his love of golf into a career and took up a PGA apprenticeship after 15 years of working in the jewelry business.
Puchalski said Saunders' enthusiasm for golf made him a fit for the Da lat Palace Golf Club. "Kenny is interested in development and there's no experience in golf development that's more pioneering than Vietnam at the moment."
For Saunders the excitement of working at the course overlooking Xuan Huong Lake is matched by the excitement of being in a country in the process of discovering the golf game.
"My main goal is to offer quality service to our guests and let them feel the warmth and charm of the city as they enjoy our course. But my long-term goal is to be a part of growing the game of golf in Vietnam.
That was part of the allure of coming to Dalat Vietnam, being on the ground floor of a growing sport. There is so much happening here and I saw a great opportunity to be a part of it," he said.
The Dalat Palace Golf Club was sketched into the master urban design plan for Dalat Vietnam by the renowned French architect, Ernest Hebrard, in 1922.
The course first opened in the early 1930s and over the years was the course of choice for Vietnam's imperial court and colonial elite. It was restored to its current glory in 1994 and was rated as the best in the country by Golf Digest USA in the 2003 and 2005 Planet Golf Survey.
The club is owned and operated by Danao International Holdings, which also owns the nearby Sofitel Dalat Palace, one of Vietnam's landmark hotels.
