Vietnamese Signs of Zodiac
The world over, people wonder at the vagaries of fate. According to the Asian horoscope, all those who are born in the same lunar year share certain tendencies.
Long ago, Asian people associated certain animals with specific days and years. A set of beliefs about fate and character arose. While people were curious, they were also afraid to discuss these maters. All bad luck was blamed on fate. They believe that a person’s destiny was set at birth.
Ancient story tells how the King of Tan Kingdom commended his solders to kill everyone who share his birthday. Many people were murdered. One day the King’s solders found a bee keeper who shared the King birthday. Brought before the King, the bee keeper said: "by the time of your birthday, Your Majestic become the rule of nine mountain districts. By the time of my birth, I become the ruler of nine beehives. Heaven arranged this”. After reflecting on the bee keeper’s words, the King decided to release him.
DRAGON
Asian people say that men born in the Year of Dragon are especially lucky. Dragon are reputed to be confident, noble optimistic and enthusiast. Football star Pele is a Dragon.
ROOSTER
These born in the year of the Rooster are said to be talented and determined. Despite their efforts, they face many struggles. Self- controlled and independent, they may also be stubborn. Rooster are said to be tidy, perceptive and strong-willed but they have reputation for emotional instability. Rooters include the Indian poet Rabindranath Togore and the Vietnamese poet Nguyen Du.
MONKEY
A Vietnamese proverb holds that: Everyone happy if born in the year of the Horse or Goat/ I face sadness and hardship in the year of the Monkey. Vietnamese people have always feared the Year of the Monkey, which is considered unlucky for both men and women. Female Monkey babies born between three and five a.m… on the other hand, are said be very lucky.
PIG
Women born in the year of the Pig are described as happy and free- spirited. “Those born in the year of the Pig never have to stand up to feed themselves” is an old Vietnamese proverb. People in Pig years are said to be impartial, individualistic, not very sociable, and spiritually complex. Many talented people are born in this year, such as the musician Van Cao.
RAT
People born in this year of the Rat are always described as ambitious, smart and very careful. They tend to successful. However they may focus on the short- term, making them vulnerable to setbacks. People in this year often have few close friends. They are accused of being selfish and suspicious. The famous football player Maradona and the poet Han Mac Tu were born Rats.
BUFFALO
People born under the sign of the buffalo are said to hardworking. Buffalo are said to be honest, noble and sensitive to the feelings of others. They are also practical. Problem solving is not their strongest point, and they may be to conservative and closed- minded. Lacking in self- controlled, buffalo may become over- emotional, at which times they can be cruel and stubborn. Famous Buffalo include the poet Vu Dinh Lien.
TIGER
Tigers are always described as dreamers. They are optimistic daring and active. Highly independent, Tigers want to be in charge. They may bite of more than they can chew. Friendly and strong, convincing and lively, tigers like excitement. They are said to be lucky in family life but should marry late. They Russian writer Boris Pasternak was a Tiger.
CAT
People born in the year of the Cat, how know to enjoy themselves. Not ambitious, they are easy-going, honest, generous, and easy to forgive. They may be showoffs. Great lovers of freedom, Cat can be smart and brave. They can also be sacrificing and try to avoid conflict. The writer Nguyen Cong Hoan and physicist Albert Einstein were both Cats.
HORSE
People were born Horse years are said to be brave, daring and independent. They enjoy freedom and learn fast. Horses reach their full potential when they live far from home. Men both under this sign are said to be rich, although they are bad at managing money. They should marry someone born in the Year of the Rat, as Rats are good savers. Horses try to establish harmony and may seek to avoid conflicts. The Chinese writer Lo Tan was born under this sign.
GOAT
Goats are said to make good students. They may be self- important.
Lovers of art, they are more theoretical than practical. Spiritually complex, they may be hesitant and pessimistic. The French mathematician Daniel Bovet was born in this year.
DOG
People born under the sign of the Dog are described as firm and goal- oriented. They may become too focused and sometimes feel sad and lonely. Relatively complicated people. Dog are said to a bit conservative. They have a lot of self respect. Many dogs find success early in life, such as the poet Tran Dang Khoa, artist Dang Thai Son, and the pop star Michael Jackson.
