Vietnam golf projects boom in oil-field province

Vietnam golf projects, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province is considering six new golf course projects, adding to the boom of heavy industy, tourism and port investments in the nation’s largest oilfield.

Deputy Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Ho Van Nien said the province has approved a golf course-tourism complex funded by the Republic of Korea.

“The 300 ha complex project in Chau Duc district has met the province’s development strategy to diversify services for industrial parks,” Nien said.

He added that the province is scrutinising the feasibility of other golf course projects, taking into accounts vital factors such as the cost of ground clearance and estimated unemployment rates due to the loss of agricultural land.

“Relevant agencies have to carefully examine the financial capacity of investors so as to limit small-scale investments which will bring in limited efficiency while occupying vast land,” the province’s deputy chairman said.

On the other hand, he promised smooth procedures in licensing qualified investors.

Vietnam now boasts 30 golf courses and expects to have up to 70 by 2010.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau, located in the southern key economic zone, is in the spotlight of the services strategy for the region.
