In August 2011, Vietnam travel attracted nearly 490,000 foreign tourist arrivals, up 14.5 percent compared to the same month last year.
So far this year, almost all foreign markets of Vietnam tourism have seen year-on-year increases. Visitors from China rose 53.5 percent, while the number of tourists from Japan (11.7 percent), Taiwan (5.4 percent), the US (18.7 percent), France (4.5 percent) and the Republic of Korea (4 percent) also saw positive increases.
There are still many significant events left in the year to attract tourists, such as the national tourism year in Phu Yen and the Ho Chi Minh City International Tourism Exhibition in September, making the target of welcoming 5.5 million foreign tourists to Vietnam achievable.
