The main activities of the festival include a fruit floating market with seventy boats carrying over 45 kinds of fruits, fruit shaping artistic competition attracting nearly a hundred craftsmen from many local provinces and cities, safe and good fruit competition with many kinds of distinguished southern fruits such as durian, rambutan, king orange and dragon fruit, and food made from fruits such as sweet soup.
This year’s festival will have fifteen provinces and cities from the north and the south manning over seventy booths, together with the participation of foreign associations, the U.S. Apple Association and the Vietnam China Trade Promotion Center. These organizations will introduce their fruit products at the festival.
“The investment that the organizers made was over VND4 billion, up 25% year-on-year,” La Quoc Khanh, vice director of the HCMC Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, told the Daily at the press conference held on Thursday at the department’s headquarters in HCMC’s District 1. The fruit festival forecasts to welcome over a million visitors and consume more than one thousand tons of fruits.
This event is an opportunity for southern farmers to introduce their products to consumers and help visitors buy fruit with prices 20%-40% lower than in the markets. Those who come to the fruit festival will taste and see many new and strange fruits to be first shown to the public as well as participate in Vietnamese folk games.
On June 1, Suoi Tien will offer free entrance tickets to every child going with their parents and discount 50% for groups of children and also give gifts to them.
