Nghinh Ong festival to be launched in late September

The Nghinh Ong Festival (Whale Worshiping Festival), a traditional festival of Southern fishermen, will be held on September 24-27, 2007 (August 14-18 in the lunar calendar) in Can Gio District, Ho Chi Minh City.

Nghinh Ong Festival, a popular whale worshiping festival held from Quang Binh Province to the Southern provinces (including Phu Quoc island), is the largest annual festival for fishermen.
During this year’s festival, meditation, bridge-building, and classical singing ceremonies will be organized, in combination with cultural and sports activities.
The activities aim to help the tourism industry in the province by focusing on its coutnryside, sights, and historical past to local and foreign visitors.
Nghinh Ong festival, during the event, Saigontourist will open an all-in tour priced at 1,070,000 VND over 2 days – one night, departing from September 26, 2007.
Joining the Vietnam tour, apart from activities at the festival, tourists will have the chance to take a boat to visit the mangrove forests recognized by UNESCO as biosphere reserves, the Sac Forest, a crocodile farm and troupe of monkey herd in Can Gio Garden.
