Luxury hotels in Hanoi, Hanoi is becoming a destination for MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) tourism and a centre for distributing tourists to the whole of northern Vietnam. Therefore, a shortage of luxury hotels is a pressing issue of the city.

In 2006, De Loite & Touche LLP ranked Hanoi Vietnam as one of the top three cities in the world with the highest rate of hotel room occupancy. In the capital, there are more than 500 types of accommodation available for tourists, including nearly 13,000 rooms. There are eight five star, six four star and 20 three star hotels in the city.
However, the scale of hotels in Hanoi Vietnam are not large. The number of hotels with more than 100 rooms account for only 3.63%. The quality service of the hotels is given more attention. Some hotels have the same high standards as those in regional countries with developed tourist industries.
At the moment, the occupancy rate of hotel rooms in Hanoi Vietnam varies from 85% to 95%. Usually, fewer tourists come to Vietnam in May and June but the occupancy rate of many hotels in the city still reaches 70%.
In 2010, Hanoi is expected to attract two million international tourists a year and from s ix to seven million domestic tourists. However, the biggest challenge for the development of Hanoi’s tourism industry is a shortage of hotels. In order to serve two million foreigners a year, Hanoi needs an additional more 13,000 hotel rooms, particularly for three to five star hotels.
Over the next four years, from 2007 to 2010, the city needs more 1,700 four to five star hotel rooms each year, equivalent to the construction of seven four to five star hotels (based on the average scale of current four and five star hotels).
From 1996 to 2000, there were no foreign investment projects focused on building hotels in Hanoi Vietnam but the situation changed in early 2007. Hanoi’s authorities granted five licences for Vietnamese and foreign investors to build luxury hotels with a total investment capital of US $1.2 billion with 2,200 rooms.
Most of these hotels will be built in new urban areas in Thanh Xuan, Cau Giay and Tu Liem districts.
