Moon cake season in Hanoi Vietnam

Moon cake season in Hanoi Vietnam, the Mid Autumn Festival (Mid Autumn Festival Tour) is coming and, as usual, the hotels' chefs in Hanoi are rolling up their sleeves to make their own unique and special moon cakes.

Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel

This season, the hotel introduces its guests to moon cakes made by two Chinese chefs, Zhong Jon Bo and Huang CanHong from Guangzhou.

The two chefs will treat guests to moon cakes with soft, thin layers and tasty stuffing of nuts and other ingredients such as lotus seed, red and beans, chestnut, green tea and coconut jam, made from recipes handed down over generations. A deluxe set of moon cake with spirit is also available at the hotel.

On the full moon day (September 25), the Ba Mien (Three Seasons) Restaurant of the hotel will introduce a menu with authentic Vietnamese dishes with prices of US$30++ and US$45++ per person.

Also on this day the hotel, in collaboration with Green Palm Gallery, will hold a charity party for 100 disadvantaged pupils from five schools, Xa Dan School for the Blind and Deaf, Nguyen Dinh Chieu School for the Blind, Koto and Tu Liem education centers for orphans and Hoa Sua Vocational Training School.

Sofitel Metropole Hotel Hanoi (Hotels in Hanoi)

This season the hotel is offering guests moon cakes in two different styles, one featuring traditional flavors with lotus seed paste or green bean paste and salty egg yolk, the second more innovative, with imported chocolate from France. Presented in an elegant box with silk lined drawers, the moon cakes are a sure crowd-pleaser.

The Chinese Mid-Autumn festival is traditionally accompanied by moon cakes symbolizing family reunion and the harvest moon. According to some they are also an indispensable part of the offerings made to the Earth God Tu Ti Kung.

This year, the festival will fall on 25 September, which is the 15th day of the Lunar calendar. The Sofitel Metropole Hanoi's moon cakes are available for sale at the hotel's Gourmand Shop on 56 Ly Thai To Street.

Hanoi Daewoo Hotel

In celebration of this special season, the hotel is introducing four sets of moon cakes: a combination set and deluxe sets with tea, wine and spirits ranging from US$17 to US$50.

The hotel's restaurant Silk Road is also offering two different set menus featuring Shanghainese and Cantonese cuisine until September 25.

The set menus are priced at US$25++ for minimum three persons and US$30++ for minimum six persons, each package includes free tasting of moon cakes and a glass of red wine.

On the full moon day (September 25), the hotel will throw a dinner show with circus act, dragon dance, pantomime and a dinner buffet.

Tickets are priced at VND350,000 for adult and VND200,000 for children under 12.
