Travel to Thi Tuong: picturesque lagoon in the heart of green fields

Travel to Thi Tuong, Thi Tuong lagoon, located between Tran Van Thoi and Phu Tan districts of Ca Mau Province, is a beautiful natural landscape and one of the largest lagoons in the Mekong Delta. Its ecological environment and rural beauty, along with other historical relics in the area, are the tourism attractions of the lagoon.

Thi Tuong lagoon is nestled in the heart of green fields and surrounded with nipa trees. It is formed by three main lagoons: Dam Trong (inner lagoon), Dam Giua (middle lagoon), which is the largest one, and Dam Ngoai (outer lagoon).

Shaped like a balloon swelling out, it is two kilometers wide, ten kilometers long and has the total water surface of about 700 hectares.  Many groups of houses on stilts, looking like a small village in the water, have been built in the lagoon.

Travel to Thi Tuong lagoon, the groups of houses are 100 meters apart which is the boundary of each household working on fishery in Thi Tuong lagoon, where there is a valuable natural resource of the sea ecosystem.

Like Tam Giang lagoon in Thua Thien Hue Province, one of the biggest lagoons in Asia, Thi Tuong lagoon charms travellers with its picturesque beauty. In the morning, tourists experience the peace and quiet of the lagoon while hearing the birds sing and watching as the sun rise creates a mesmerizing scene on the water.

In Thi Tuong lagoon, when the sun is up and the dew has disappeared tourists can observe more clearly the daily life of the people in this coastal area with their many unique customs.

Around the lagoon, there are also historic relics and army bases of Vietnamese people in the two wars of resistance against the French and the Americans, such as Xeo Duoc Army Base, the residential place of members of the liberation army.

Travellers may stay in the houses on stilts, where they can easily observe and take part in the daily life of the locals. Traveling in the lagoon by canoe under the shadows of the nipa trees is another interesting activity. 

Thi Tuong lagoon with its preserved, natural beauty is a frequent destination of photographers, filmmakers and researchers.
