Mang Den destination in Central Highlands Vietnam

Considered the second Da Lat, Mang Den, located in the centre of Kon Plong district in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum Vietnam, is expected to become a new centre for tourism in the region.
An escape from the heat of the city, Mang Den destination is situated at an average height of 1,200 metres above sea water level and has a cool climate all year-round with an average temperature of under 20 degree centigrade.
Most significantly, the area boasts a spectacular landscape, a 4,000-ha century-old pine forest along the National Road No 24 that links central coastal provinces with the Central Highlands abundant with springs, waterfalls and lakes such as Dak Re, Pasih and Lo Ba as well as Toong Dam, Toong Zo Ri and Tong Po.
The government have recognised the potential of the area by deciding to add it into the overall plan on developing Vietnam’s tourism in the 2006-2010 period.
Kon Tum province’s Department of Trade and Tourism has completed a plan to build Mang Den into a tourist site with 11 eco-tourism complexes, said Vo Xuan Truyen, Chairman of the Kon Plong People’s Committee. The construction is estimated to cost 2 trillion VND (125 million USD), of which 75 percent will come from investors.
Kon Plong district has sped up projects to strengthen infrastructure to support tourism development. These include improvements on road networks to remote areas and installation of broadcasting stations and telephone lines in almost all communes. More than 60 percent of households in the district have now gained access to electricity and 65 percent have been provided with safe water.
The district authorities have called for investment in further developing infrastructure, industry and handicrafts in an effort to turn Mang Den into the province’s key tourist centre by 2010. The area is also expected to become a bridge between central coastal and Central Highlands provinces with the Vietnam-Lao-Cambodia development triangle through the Bo Y International Border Gate.
