Airline offers Hanoi - Hong Kong flights
25/04/07 (GMT+7)
The Vietnam Administration of Civil Aviation has licenced Hongkong Airlines to operate on the Hong Kong - Hanoi air route as of April 25, with seven flights per week.
This is the 24th airline allowed to operate air routes to and from the Hanoi-based Noi Bai International Airport VIetnam. The airline will use Boeing 737-800s, which can carry 164 passengers on this air route.
Currently two airlines, Vietnam Airlines and Cathay Pacific, are cooperating to operate the Hanoi - Hong Kong - Hanoi air route.Hongkong Airlines was established in 2006 to operate flights to China. The airline has selected Vietnam as the first place to expand operations to Southeast Asia. Last year Noi Bai welcomed around 5 million passengers, which is expected to be 6 million this year, including 49% of foreign passengers. In related news, a low-cost air carrier, NoK Air, plans to open the Bangkok - Hanoi and Bangkok - Ho Chi Minh City air routes in the fourth quarter of 2007 by Boeings 737-400. If NoK Air is licenced by the Vietnam Administration of Civil Aviation, it will be the fifth airline of Thailand operating air routes from Vietnam (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang) to Thailand.
