Tourism skills assessment center launched in Hanoi, on November 26, the Vietnam Tourism Certification Board (VTCB), supported by the EU-funded Vietnam Human Resources Development in Tourism Project (VNHRDT) launched its first-ever Tourism Skills Assessment Centre, in Hanoi Vietnam.
This is considered a decisive step for Vietnam’s hotel and travel industry in improving its standard of services.
The skills assessment centre will conducts tests on operational staff at entry-level the hotel and travel industry, to evaluate their skills and competencies in 13 disciplines, ranging from Housekeeping, Front Office and Food & Beverage services to Western & Vietnamese Food Production, Travel & Tour Operations and Tour Guiding.
The centre is the mainstay of a National Recognition System – VTOS – that offers an industry-based, on-the-job training to internationally agreed standards, followed by a nationally recognized examination and certification.
It is expected to allow workers at hotels and travel agencies who have received little or no formal vocational training to be officially recognised for their skills and performance, thereby enhancing their job mobility, career paths and earning capacity.
The trainers will in turn received “how to train skills standards” training from the Project and industry trainees will be registered with the VTCB to have their skills put to the test.
