First Malaysian caravan travel to central Vietnam

02/04/07 (GMT+7)

For the first time, Malaysian caravan tourists travel to the central region of Vietnam in a very attractive tour.

Malaysian caravan travel to central Vietnam

A Malaysian caravan group of 38 right-handed vehicles and 40 tourists travel in the central province of Da Nang. Some 10 reporters from news agencies and TV channels were also among the guests.

During the two day stay in Da Nang on March 30 and 31, the group of tourists visited the Hai Van pass, Ngu Hanh Son (Marble Mountains), Non Nuoc Stone Fine Arts Village, Cham Museum, and went shopping at shops in Da Nang.

In the evening of March 30, at Sandy Beach resort, Da Nang Mayor Tran Van Minh had a warm meeting with the Malaysian caravan, where he introduced attractive tourism potentials of Da Nang to Malaysian guests. On this occasion, Malaysian travelers had the chance to enjoy Vietnamese traditional culinary dishes and traditional music and songs.

Prior to that, on March 28, the Malaysian caravan entered Vietnam through the Lao Bao border gate in Quang Tri province. The caravan has also visited the ancient capital of Hue, where they visited famous landscapes including Dai Noi, Linh Mu Pagoda, Tu Duc and Khai Dinh Kings’ tombs.

As planned, the caravan has left Da Nang for Quang Nam province, where they will visit the world’s cultural heritage Hoi An ancient town in Vietnam, enjoying a wonderful night at the ancient town. After that, the travelers will go to the Central Highlands and then leave Vietnam from the Bo Y border gate in Kon Tum province on April 3.

This was for the first time a Malaysian caravan came to the central region. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung in person gave instructions about the reception of the caravan.

The number of caravan tourists to the central region has been increasing sharply in the last year after a lot of effort made by the Government of Vietnam and the governments of regional countries. In 2006, the number of tourists that came to Da Nang as part of caravan tours saw a sharp increase, at 20,000, or five times the figure from last year. Experts have forecast about the boom of caravan travelers from Thailand, and from other countries, who will come to Vietnam overland through Thailand.

In fact, the number of Thai caravan travelers to Vietnam has been on the rise after the East – West Economic Corridor was put through. The arrival of the first Malaysian caravan, once again, showed the potential of the central region in developing caravan tourism.
