Travel agencies’ tours to Festival Hue 2008

Vietnam Travel in Brief 07/02 Some 30 local travel agencies have launched tours to the central province of Thua Thien-Hue to coincide with the Festival Hue 2008 from June 3 to 11.

The tours were developed after the provincial tourism authority and travel agencies surveyed tourists about the province’s attractions and discovered the most popular are Duyet Thi Duong Theatre, singing Hue folk music on the Perfume River, My Khanh Cham Tower, Le Ba Dang Arts Centre, and the ancient village of Phuoc Tich.

According to figures from the province’s Tourism Department, tourist arrivals in the first two months this year hit a record high, despite bad weather, of nearly 200,000, including 124,000 foreign visitors, a year-on-year increase of 43 percent. The largest numbers have been from Thailand, China, Japan and France.

Dak Lak to hold 2009 national tourism year

The Government has approved a proposal by the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak to host the 2009 national tourism year.

The provincial administration says it has gained experience in this area after hosting other major tourism events like the Central Highlands Festival, the Gong Festival, and the Buon Me Thuot Coffee Festival in recent years, and that the province has immense potential in eco-tourism and cultural tourism.

The tourist attractions there include waterfalls such as Dray Sap, Gia Long, Trinh Nu, Krong Kmar, Bay Nhanh, Thuy Tien, Ba Tang, and large lakes – each spread over 200 to 600 ha – such as Lak and Ea Kao that are suitable for sailing, surfing, fishing, and other activities.

The Malaysian Tourism Board’s Southeast Asia Division said the tour would appeal not only to speed lovers but also to other travellers since it would feature other activities like music, fashion shows and sight-seeing.

Cambodian teacher begins trans-Vietnam motorbike tour in Ho Chi Minh City

Angela Tao, a 30-year-old Cambodian English teacher, is poised to achieve her dream of travelling across Vietnam and exploring the country, as she departed for a trans-Vietnam tour by motorbike from Ho Chi Minh City last month.

Tao has hired guides to transport her on their motorbikes and hopes to keep expenses as low as possible by spending little on food and staying in budget hotels. Although this means snacking on instant noodles and water, Tao might end up spending two months’ salary for the tour.

Speaking with a Journalist in Khanh Hoa Province earlier this week, Tao said she planned to travel to the northwest and central regions this month.
