Over the past 10 years, the Bei Hai – Halong cruise route served nearly 400,000 tourists, said Mr. Xu Hua Ben, Director of Bei Hai Tourism Administration, at the International Cruise Tourism Conference in Halong Bay in 2007. The route is being expanded to include Vietnam’s Central and Southern provinces and is expected to stretch to other ASEAN countries, opening an “ASEAN by sea” concept via the Golf of Tonkin.

Aiming to boost Bei Hai – Ha Long tourism cooperation and tourism, Bei Hai needs to establish and complete seaports, border gates, and cruise infrastructure, said Mr. Xu Hua Ben.

He also emphasized that the two sides should enhance cooperation and develop mutual markets. Through promotion and advertisement programs for this sea route, the two cities will have the opportunity to receive a large number of tourists and enjoy bilateral tourist exchange.

Moreover, Mr. Ben introduced a number of measures constituting a system to respond to any problems affecting sea tourism, ensuring sustainable development.

Quang Ninh Province has begun speeding up advertisements and international cooperation in sea tourism. Mr. Trinh Van Hong, Deputy Director of the Quang Ninh’s Tourism Department also asserted that Quang Ninh always considers China a major market and has policies to tap sea tourism potential from Bei Hai, especially tourism relations with the city.

Bei Hai is one of three seaport cities in Guang Xi and is rich in sea tourism potential. Together with strong economic growth between China and ASEAN countries in general and Vietnam in particular, tourism relations have gained increasing importance.

Quang Ninh Province, a central coastal province with sea and islands accounting for nearly 50 percent of the city’s area, is home to the UNESSCO world heritage site Halong Bay Vietnam and many beautiful landscapes. The province is becoming more attractive to both foreign and domestic tourists.
