Travel in Brief, the first and second runners-up at last year’s Miss Korea pageant and the 51 contestants from this year were in Ho Chi Minh City for a cultural exchange titled 2008 Miss Korea Hanbok Fashion Show last Saturday.

Later they attended another 2008 Miss Korea Hanbok Fashion Show in Hanoi, Vietnam.

These events were part of the celebrations to mark the 16th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Vietnam.

Sinh Cafe launches sleeper buses for beach resort travellers

Tourist bus service operator Sinh Cafe has launched several sleeper buses for overnight traveller, especially those on tours to the beach resort area of Mui Ne in Binh Thuan Province.

The air-conditioned buses are designed with built-in restrooms and large seats that can extend backward during the five-hour journey from Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne.

From Ho Chi Minh City, these buses depart for Mui Ne at 8.30pm daily. Tickets are priced at VND150,000 (US$9) each.

Vietnam opens borders to foreign tourist vehicles

Foreign tourist vehicles, including right-hand-drive ones, will be allowed to enter Vietnam from all border checkpoints soon in an effort to attract more travellers, especially from neighbouring countries.

Vu The Binh, head of the Viet Nam National Administration for Tourism’s Travel Department, said the Government has approved a plan to allow authorised foreign vehicles.

He said another border checkpoint would be opened in the north-western Dien Bien Province for tourists from Luang Prabang, Laos. The new checkpoint will help shorten the distance between Laos and Dien Bien by 100km.

Macau shows and tells Ho Chi Minh City what it’s all about

Macau, the ex-Portuguese colony known as the Las Vegas of the East, gave Vietnamese a glimpse of its attractions through the ongoing Macau Festival at two venues in Ho Chi Minh City.

Organised by budget carrier Viva Macau Airlines, the only airline flying to Macau, and supported by the Macau Tourism Office, the festival aims to showcase the unique attractions, vibrancy, and fun that this Chinese territory offers.

Con Korfiatis, CEO of Viva Macau Airlines, said, "With this festival, we bring Macau to Vietnam and welcome people from Vietnam to take the short flight with us to experience exciting Macau."

"For low airfares and great service, we hope the festival will show Macau is a must-visit for Vietnamese, being only two hours away and ideal for a short and affordable getaway break."

The festival runs until tomorrow at Diamond Plaza in District 1 and An Dong Plaza in District 5, Ho Chi Minh City.
