Vote for Halong Bay Vietnam encouraged
07/08/08 (GMT+7)
Vietnam’s Halong Bay fell on the ranking list of the seven new world natural wonders selection, organised by NewOpenWorld organisation, twice within a month, from first to third position.
On June 29, Halong Bay fell to the second position after over four months in the top position. On July 1, it dropped to third position.
The fall of Halong Bay in a short period of time is bad news for many Vietnamese and those who love this landscape.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Tran Chien Thang said the National Steering Board for Halong Bay Vote will begin to work in August 2008.
Thang said the board will campaign for students, who are familiar with the Internet, to vote for the bay.
“We should not worry. Cox’s Bazar beach of Bangladesh welcomes around 8 million visitors a year while the entire number of visitors that come to Vietnam is less than 5 million. It is important that we are aware of the marketing of the country’s image,” Thang said.
