Moc Chau Love Market

~ 'The only annual love market of the Hmong'

Overview | Itinerary in detail |Testimonials | Discounts

Routes: Hanoi – Mai Chau – Moc Chau – Hanoi
Duration: 2 days 1 night.

Features: Moc Chau is a mountainous district of Son La province. It is quite near Hanoi, with a 4 hours drive you will reach this beautiful town with cool climate year round.

September 1st has long become the only annual love market of the Hmong people in Moc Chau. Any visitor would be charmed by the beauty of the market which is carpeted by the colorful traditional costumes of different Hmong groups including: White Hmong, Hoa Hmong, Black Hmong, and Green Hmong.

The festival is so crowded that one will feel as if going on a pilgrimage. Dazed faces of the teenage girls can be seen everywhere. It is not until reaching the festival site that some young men stop their motorbikes to put on the traditional attires. Others are making a short stop to have a haircut. Then, they will invite the girls to have pho (noodle soup) and take some photos and then have their teeth gold-plated. When the conventional fashion is fulfilled, every one will be at their utmost good-looking and happy.

The young men begin teasing and pulling girls who keep smiling even when their wigs are pulled down. Today is a day of the youth’s happiness, of clenched hands, passionate looks and flirting.
Moc Chau love market is the rendezvous for pure love. Acquaintance and consent are a lovers’ proposal and pledge for the next ban flower blossom when their love will bear fruit.
