Halong Bay Vignette:

There is magic in Halong Bay. If you sit quietly in the evening, just as the sun has set and the pinks and baby-blues silhouette the shapes of the towering limestone features you can feel it. There is no better way to experience it than to be aboard one of Footprint’s royal junks. The food is magnificent and the sites and activities will leave you with lasting memories.

Description:

Located 170 km away from Hanoi, Halong Bay is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Halong Bay covers an area of over 1,500 km, dotted with thousands of rocky islands, most of them made of limestone.

The countless large and small islands of different shapes and sizes rise from the sea along a 200km stretch from the estuary of the Bach Dang river to Tra Co beach. Local fishermen have given many of them evocative names according to their shapes including: Cone-shape Cookie, Banana, Small Fish, Tortoise, Nail, Wading Ox, and Wallowing Buffalo. The islands are riddled with caves and grottoes offering spectacular stalactite displays. Bo Nau cave, Dau Go grotto and Trinh Nu grotto are especially worth seeing.

Sailboats, motorboats, and traditional junks are available at Halong Bay City to take you on a panoramic journey of the bay with visits to some of the caves and grottoes and is an experience that is not to be missed!

Catba Island and the National Park there, is a worthwhile stop on one's Halong Bay tour, and is frequestned by international and domestic tourists. A recommended attaction is the Cat Bat Langur Conservation Project. For more informaiton click here.
